Our History

Going vertical since 1989
Our History. From foundation to Europe's leading specialist.
What began in 1989 as MST Bau GmbH is today one of Europe's leading slipform construction companies. Bitschnau Gleit- & Schalungstechnik GmbH represents over three decades of experience in vertical construction – from the development of proprietary formwork systems and patented innovations such as the BETOMAT® to the tallest structure ever built using slipforming in the company's history: the 245 m high elevator test tower in Rottweil. Headquartered in Nenzing, Vorarlberg, we deliver projects across Europe and beyond.
Milestones. Our development at a glance.
1989
Foundation of MST Bau GmbH
Founded by Hugo Mathis with Lothar Bitschnau as managing director. The foundation for over three decades of slipform expertise – today one of Europe's leading specialists.
1990
First structure exceeding 100 m in height
Chimney at Hamburg Power Plant
Chimney at Hamburg Power Plant – height 115 m, formwork area 9,500 m²
Completion of the first structure exceeding 100 m in height: the chimney at the Hamburg power plant. At 115 m tall with 9,500 m² of formwork area, it was an early testament to the capabilities of the young company.
1993
Development of the BETOMAT®
Betomat in operation
BETOMAT® in operation
Development and first deployment of the BETOMAT® – a proprietary system for safe and efficient concrete placement during the slipforming process. The result: doubled placement capacity, full utilisation of crane capacity, and significantly reduced risk of injury on the working platform.
1995
First major projects with full-service delivery
Stairwell tower Dresden
Stairwell tower / elevator shaft Dresden
Completion of the first major projects with full-service responsibility during the slipforming process – from formwork to concrete placement to curing. A milestone in the company's development into a turnkey provider.
1998
Aluminium formwork systems
Aluminium support systems
Aluminium support systems
Development and first deployment of aluminium formwork systems. Lighter, faster to assemble, and more durable – a technological advantage that remains the foundation of our systems to this day.
2003
Foundation of Bitschnau Gleit- & Schalungstechnik GmbH
Management buy-out: The Bitschnau family acquires MST Bau GmbH and establishes Bitschnau Gleit- & Schalungstechnik GmbH. A clear commitment to independence and to the future of slipform construction.
2005
New warehouse and office in Nenzing
Nenzing headquarters
Bitschnau Gleit- & Schalungstechnik GmbH in Nenzing
Construction of a new 5,000 m² warehouse with office space at the new Nenzing headquarters. The foundation for further growth and efficient logistics for projects across Europe.
2008
First deployment of the MONOBOX®
Monobox engine house Mannheim
Engine house Mannheim – first MONOBOX® deployment
Advancement of the formwork systems and improved competitiveness in industrial construction through the first deployment of the MONOBOX® at the engine house in Mannheim. The modular enclosure set new standards for safety and quality.
2009
Transition to stainless steel form skin
Stainless steel formwork
Stainless steel form skin with aluminium waling

2015
New formwork generation & height record
Elevator test tower Rottweil
Elevator test tower Rottweil – height 245 m, slipform height 274.50 m, formwork area 80,000 m²
Technical redesign and investment in a new formwork generation with a large-scale platform and increased load-bearing capacity for greater flexibility and higher quality standards. Construction of the tallest freestanding structure in the company's history: the elevator test tower in Rottweil.
2017
MULTIBOX® – for rectangular and circular
Multibox tank Belgium
Tank Belgium – diameter 35 m, height 32 m
Evolution of the MONOBOX® into the MULTIBOX® – formwork enclosure for both circular and rectangular structures meeting the highest safety standards. First deployment on a tank in Belgium.
